Joe had a checkup today and we were thrilled to find out that he has already lost 8 pounds. With that news and then getting a Wii, he thought it was a pretty good day.
We got this shot on the way home...
First, if you don't know who Joe is, then you'd better read here...! Ok, back? Great!
Joe just finished his 3rd week of 5th grade. His teacher loves him and he has been making friends. That's a huge relief! Guess what else? He wants to help save the planet! He is using my Amazon Seller's Account, to sell every toy he's no longer using. The most impressive thing, to me, is the note that he includes with every order, which goes like this: "My name is Joe and I'm ten years old. I'm recycling packaging to ship your order and if you want to be kind to the planet, you'll recycle it, too! If you get tired of this toy, pass it on to someone else, please don't throw it in the garbage!"
Is that great, or what??
Also, things that he can't sell on Amazon, Joe is donating. We went through all our winter coats and came up with 10 to donate to coats for kids, plus 2 pairs of boots, gloves, scarves and hats. (My coats can go, too...they're kid sized!)
I think things are going to be fine!
I found this neat organ bench, on someone's curb...which is cool, because I needed one for the piano...
However, it's already been claimed and I don't think I'm going to get to use it!!

I haven't updated in a while. I think because it doesn't seem like very many people are using LJ right now. Should I switch to Blogspot, do you think?
Anyway, I have a lot to catch up on...I guess I'll do it all at once.

My niece died suddenly a couple of years ago, leaving her two sons to live with my brother. But, one of the boys, Joe, hasn't been doing very well. He doesn't get the attention that he needs. He's only 10 years old but is now close to 50 pounds over weight. My brother just doesn't have the time or patience to help him learn better eating and exercise habits and he has asked to come and live with me. I agreed. It's going to be a challenge, there's no doubt about that. But, I'm hopeful that I can make a positive difference in this boy's life. Tomorrow, we go to register him for school. One thing that he does have going for him is that he has above average intelligence and last year, even with his unhappy home situation, was on the honor roll at school. I want to help him keep that up, make friends and of course, be healthy.
Wish us luck.
I visited the Wisconsin Big Cat Rescue and Educational Center . These good people take unwanted, abused and neglected exotic cats and give tham a safe, loving and forever home. As you can tell, the big sweeties were sleepy, today...it was hot and humid. I'm going back in October, to see them in the cooler weather...and again and again...........
If you want to see more of my photos of big cat faces go to my deviantart gallery: http://kbcollins.deviantart.com/gallery
But, here are a few of the snap shots....

I haven't written anything much, lately...been kind of busy, working on the recycling project, planting, going to work now and then, volunteering at the wheel chair recycling program. It's sticky, today... 90 degrees and 81% humidity. The cats are melting -

The power has gone out, three times, today. I guess everyone's turning on air conditioners. I have trees. I don't mind being without electricity, as long as the food in the fridge doesn't spoil. See, I have my unplugged entertainment center -

Screech looks like he has a bloody nose in that photo, but really he just has a ginger colored spot right there. The music books that are out, on the piano, at the moment, I got for free. Someone was going to throw them away. Can you imagine throwing away Mozart and Chopin? The tiles along the top are all recycled art...some collage, some origami and hand painting...
I don't feel the need for a complicated life, but I don't think I'm "simple" either.
